Inaugural Taste of the NFL-Los Angeles Rams Event Raises Nearly $200,000

More than 350 guests joined celebrity chefs and LA Rams players and cheerleaders to raise funds for hunger relief

The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, the Los Angeles Rams and Taste of the NFL announced today that their first Taste of the NFL – Los Angeles Rams event held on October 5, 2016 at the Globe Theatre at Universal Studios Hollywood SM generated nearly $200,000 to provide meals to feed the hungry.

Los Angeles Rams football players, cheerleaders, mascot Rampage and event co-chairs Rams General Manager Les Snead and his wife Kara Henderson Snead of the NFL Network teamed with chefs Josiah Citrin (Melisse); Tony Esnault (Church & State, Spring); Susan Feniger (Border Grill, Mud Hen Tavern); Neal Fraser (Redbird); Ray Garcia (Broken Spanish); Duff Goldman (Charm City Cakes); Dave Histed (Pavilions); Bruce Kalman (Union); Jessica Largey (Simone, opening late 2016); Steve Samson (Sotto); Travis Strickland (Baltaire) and Benjamin Udave (Sysco)  to raise awareness and funds to benefit the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank.

“We are thankful to all of the chefs, the Los Angeles Rams, Universal Studios staff and the guests who helped make our first Los Angeles Taste of the NFL event a success,” said Michael Flood, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. “While there is still much work to be done to eliminate hunger in Los Angeles, we are extremely proud that this year’s efforts resulted in raising nearly $200,000 to feed  people in need.”

“As we return home to Los Angeles, we understand that food insecurity is one of the most pressing issues facing our community with 16 percent of Angelinos not knowing where they are going to get their next meal,” said Molly Higgins, Vice President of Community Affairs and Engagement, Los Angeles Rams. “Introducing Taste of the NFL to this market provided us a very effective and efficient way to help raise money for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and the important work they are doing to address hunger in our region. Because of the Taste of the NFL, we will help provide 800,000 meals to feed children, seniors and families who otherwise might have gone without. Those are tangible stats that speak to our commitment to assist our community.”

In addition to funds raised from ticket sales, proceeds were generated from silent and live auctions and footballs sold at the event.

About Los Angeles Regional Food Bank
For 43 years, the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank has worked to mobilize resources in the community to alleviate hunger.  It provides food to more than 300,000 clients monthly and in 2015 distributed 62 million pounds of food. The Food Bank collects food from hundreds of resources, which it distributes through a network of 625 partner agencies throughout Los Angeles County. With the help of 27,000 volunteers annually, 97 percent of funds raised and in-kind donations go directly to programs.
