5 Players to Watch Against the Browns

Myles Simmons provides direction on five players to watch in Saturday's game against the Cleveland Browns.

1. Sam Bradford

The Rams’ quarterback will look to build on a strong performance in his preseason debut last week versus the Packers. Bradford completed nine of his 12 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown in two possessions of work. He figures to get more time in the game this week, as the Rams are game planning for the Browns more than they have for the first two preseason contests. Head coach Jeff Fisher said on Thursday that most of the starters will play at least through the first half.

2. Jake Long

The left tackle also suffered a torn ACL toward the end of the season, and is expected to be back this week in Cleveland. Fisher has said that it’s important to get Long out there in order to help continue the development of rookie Greg Robinson. The first-round pick will be playing between Long and center Scott Wells at left guard.

3. Brian Quick

Quick made a terrific deep catch last week against Green Bay, and should get some more good time in with the first-team offense on Saturday. With his great camp, the wide receiver is in position to make more plays in Cleveland, though he’ll likely be covered by lockdown corner Joe Haden or the Browns’ first-round pick Justin Gilbert.

4. Daren Bates

Bates is another young player who’s had a strong camp and should play a role in the linebacking corps this season. Speaking to assembled media on Wednesday, middle linebacker James Laurinaitis specifically pointed out Bates as someone who has been doing a fine job. Look for Bates to make some stops in the middle of the defense on Saturday.

5. Lamarcus Joyner

Joyner has had his share of ups and downs in camp, but should make an impact on the Rams’ defense in 2014. Fisher said on Wednesday that the second-round pick would see a good amount of playing time with the four secondary starters this week when the team is in nickel substitution packages.
