The St. Louis Rams Community Player of the Week is running back Daryl Richardson.

After emerging as a key running back last season, Daryl has also emerged as a key contributor to the Rams’ off the field efforts.  In addition to participating in a variety of the team’s community outreach efforts, Daryl is also spearheading some of his own community initiatives focused on working with kids.

Last week Daryl, along with teammate Michael Brockers, visited Brian Hill Elementary as a part of a continual program the two players created. To encourage local students to focus on their studies and reward them for their efforts, Daryl and Michael visit the school each month and participate in a fun activity with students who reach their academic goals.

Earlier in the month, Daryl supported the Taste of the NFL benefitting the St. Louis Foodbank and the St. Louis Sports Commission. He mingled with fans and tasted local cuisine from some of the top restaurants in the city.

Daryl has also spent his time spreading the message of breast cancer awareness and celebrating those who’ve survived their battle. This summer he was on hand at the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure St. Louis to meet with participants and pass out flowers to survivors. He also attended the Crucial Catch Survivor Reception at Rams Park prior to the breast cancer awareness game in October. He, along with some of his fellow players, cheerleaders and Rampage, helped honor women in the St. Louis area and their families who’d survived the breast cancer fight.

Supporting those in need and being a role model for younger generations is never too far from Daryl’s agenda. Daryl makes trips to local children’s hospitals to visit with sick children and offer them hope. This past spring Daryl was on hand for the ‘PLAY 60’ Field Day at Rams Park. There he led students from schools across the city in fun fitness challenges spreading the message of a healthy lifestyle and the importance of getting sixty minutes of daily exercise. He also participated in the Make-A-Wish Celebrity Server Dinner, competing against his teammates to collect ‘tip’ donations that went towards providing children affected by life-threatening illnesses with a chance to live out their dreams.

“Daryl has become one of our off the field leaders,” said Molly Higgins, Rams vice president of corporate communications/civic affairs. “He has demonstrated great initiative in seeking out opportunities to assist the community especially kids and we’re very appreciative of all of his charitable work from visiting schools and children’s hospitals to supporting our various special events.”
