The St. Louis Rams Community Player of the Week is safety Rodney McLeod.

With a minute and 32 seconds left in Sunday’s game, Rodney McLeod intercepted a pass to seal a Rams victory over the Chicago Bears. An integral part of the team’s success on the field, Rodney is just as vital to the team’s community outreach efforts in the St. Louis community.

This holiday season, Rodney is building on his relationship with the Salvation Army by serving as the Rams’ ambassador for the 2013 Tree of Lights campaign. He recently recorded a public service announcement to publicize the organization’s upcoming efforts and events and will participate by helping ring bells along with his teammates and KPLR/Fox 2 on December 10 in front of the Des Peres Schnucks. Additionally, Rodney has partnered with the Salvation Army for a holiday shopping event. The Salvation Army has identified underserved kids and provided them with gift cards to Target and Rodney will join the kids to help them pick out their gifts.

Continuing his commitment to working with the youth of St. Louis, this May, Rodney volunteered at the inaugural Rams PLAY 60 Field Day. The event, held at Rams Park, rewarded 450 St. Louis area students who participated in the PLAY 60 Challenge and Fuel Up to PLAY 60 programs throughout the school year. The day was filled with fitness challenges and fun activities. Rodney was on hand to help the kids run drills and emphasize the importance of an active lifestyle.

In September, Rodney lent his support to the Make-A-Wish Foundation by attending their annual ‘Night of Wishes’ event. In an effort to raise money to grant wishes for terminally-ill children in the St. Louis area, he participated in a tip collecting competition with his fellow teammates. By the end of the night, Rodney and the Rams helped collect enough donations to grant 56 wishes.

Rodney also took time from his offseason this summer to play in Coach Fisher’s Celebrity Softball Game benefitting five area charities and attended the 11th Annual Taste of the NFL this fall lending his support to the St. Louis Area Foodbank and the St. Louis Sports Commission.

“We’re proud of Rodney for taking a leadership role with the Salvation Army Tree of Lights campaign,” said Molly Higgins, Rams’ vice president of corporate communications/civic affairs. “In addition to being a captain for the team, he’s really embraced his opportunity to lead in the community as well.”
