Daily Dose: Seven Late-Round Draft Picks Likely to Exceed Expectations

This offseason, theRams.com will be taking a look around the internet for the top Rams headlines of the day. Here's a look at what's out there for Monday, May 14th about your Los Angeles Rams:

7 Late-Round NFL Draft Picks Likely to Exceed Expectations in 2018

NFL.com's Lance Zierlein is one of several draft analysts tasked with curating team needs and creating profiles for more than 500 prospects each year. For that reason, he has developed strong opinions about certain players in each draft, and specifically about those drafted on Day 3.

While late-round players are often counted on for nothing more than depth or for their core special teams abilities, there are always a few in each class that end up exceeding expectations. Here are seven such players, that in Zierlein's opinion, are likely to outperform their draft slots:

1) D.J. Reed, CB, San Francisco 49ers

2) Tim Settle, DT, Washington Redskins,

3) John Kelly, RB, Los Angeles Rams

— Drafted: Round 6, No. 176 overall out of Tennessee.
— Analysis: Todd Gurley is the man for the Rams, but to keep him at his best, the Rams will need a runner who can pick up tough yards as a backup and catch passes out of the backfield. That's where Kelly comes in. The Rams' Malcolm Brown is a try-hard runner, but he had just 9 catches for 53 yards last season, while Gurley led the team with 64 grabs. Kelly helps diversify the running back corps, and he has the ability to offer legitimate RB2 versatility right away.

The three-time Pro Bowler was traded to the Rams this offseason in exchange for a 2018 fourth-round and 2019 second-round pick.
