Tuesday Camp Notes: Physical Practice

Posted Aug 20, 2013

Tuesday proved to be one of the most physical practices this preseason for the Rams, coming on the day before training camp breaks.

Typically the 1-on-1’s between the cornerbacks and the wide receivers is the most watched part of the beginning of practice. However, the team’s 9-on-7 stole the show and the offensive line, tight ends, and running backs got in a high-energy run game session against the defense’s front seven. The period set the tone for what would be one of camp’s most intense afternoons. The defense was successful in filling gaps quickly throughout the period, though RBs Daryl Richardson and Zac Stacy did find some holes.

Stacy, who recently returned to the practice field, ran hard all afternoon and hauled in some receptions in the team’s 11-on-11 period. Stacy has eased his way back into full activity, but looked like he was moving around very well on Tuesday.

WRs Emory Blake, Justin Veltung and TE Cory Harkey continued to play well in the pass game, as they came up with downfield catches on several occasions in 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 periods.

CBs Janoris Jenkins and Brandon McGee consistently frustrated receivers throughout the day with multiple pass breakups, while S T.J. McDonald ended the offense’s hopes of scoring in the 2-minute segment of 7-on-7 when he picked off QB Sam Bradford in the red zone.

TE Lance Kendricks took the field in shoulder pads Tuesday, but was not a full participant.

The last training camp practice and final chance for the public to see the team at Rams Park is set for Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 3:30 p.m.
