Tuesday Camp Notes: Rams Get Physical in Full-Padded Practice

Posted Aug 13, 2013

The Rams came out to the practice field and put in two hours of high-energy work on a cool, breezy Tuesday afternoon. It was the team’s first time in full pads since last week’s preseason game and the physicality and intensity was high throughout the day. Practice kicked off with some good news regarding TE Lance Kendricks and DT Jermelle Cudjo, who both came off the PUP list today.

The skill positions’ 7-on-7 period was full of big plays. WRs Tavon Austin and Brian Quick both hauled in deep balls during the period, as the offense was working close to its own goal line. It was not all offense, however.  Austin was about to bring in his second long reception of the day when S Darian Stewart flew out of nowhere to pick the pass off in dramatic fashion.

On the far side of the practice field, the offensive and defensive lines took advantage of being in full pads. During a period in practice that the two groups typically work 1-on-1 on pass-protection/pass-rush, instead the lines worked on stunts using multiple players. For the second day in a row, the linemen got good work in.

RB Zac Stacy returned to full action today. Stacy had previously practiced in a limited capacity in the previous two practice sessions. In 7-on-7, he showed he can play a role in the pass game, as he brought in several receptions in including one deep ball.  RB Benny Cunningham showed similar skills when he snatched a deep ball on the next play.

The offense finished the period efficient on all levels: underneath, intermediate, and deep routes.

In 11-on-11 period, Austin and Quick stayed hot, as both helped stretch the field by hauling in big receptions. Stacy participated in the team session this afternoon, as well, and looked good running the ball between the tackles, while RB Daryl Richardson also put a few nice runs together.

The intensity was at its highest during the team’s situational segment of practice down at the goal line. Though the period went back and forth between powerful running and an unyielding defense, the passion and determination of both sides remained consistent.

After recently returning to the practice field, LB Jabara Williams was held out of practice Tuesday. S Matt Giordano and LB Sammy Brown both remained out of practice, also.
