The St. Louis Rams announced Benny Cunningham as the team’s Perficient Community Player of the Week for week six.

The St. Louis Rams announced Benny Cunningham as the team’s Community Player of the Week for week six.

“It feels good to be recognized,” Cunningham said. “You don’t really do it for recognition, but it’s a good feeling that you know people see you’re trying to reach out and help people when you have the opportunity to.”

Cunningham’s nomination comes after he visited patients at SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital. Cunningham, along with RB Malcom Brown, FB Zach Laskey and RB Chase Reynolds, surprised one girl in the hospital and donated art supplies for her art drive. The players, led by Cunningham, participated in arts and crafts activities with some of the children, posed for photos and gave out Rams player cards.

“Going to Cardinal Glennon was a great experience,” Cunningham said. “To see those kids going through so much, spending most of their lives in a hospital, to give them an opportunity to be children and play, paint and laugh and take their minds off of what they’re going through, that’s just a great feeling.”

Cunningham also took part in the Rams’ Breast Cancer Survivors’ Reception at Rams Park to kick off the National Football League’s “A Crucial Catch: Annual Screening Saves Lives,” in St. Louis. During the event, Cunningham posed for photos and autographed items for survivors and listened to their stories about courage and perseverance.

“It was my second year doing the event, and it was great seeing some familiar faces,” Cunningham said. “Just so everyone can enjoy life and have fun and not think about the struggles of the real world, that’s the best part of the night.”

Last season, Cunningham served as an event captain for the “Motion for Kids Holiday Party” for 4,000 area children who have been impacted by the legal system and will do so again this year. He also funded a Thanksgiving distribution event for families in need through the Urban League. This offseason, he made an appearance at Camp Rainbow, a week-long camp for children battling cancer.
