Posted Sep 15, 2016

Each week, the Rams select a player to honor as the Rams Community Player of the Week. The program, presented by Wells Fargo, is intended to recognize players for the positive impact they make off the field.

The Los Angeles Rams announced Cory Harkey as the Rams Community Player of the Week for week 1 in recognition of his community outreach efforts throughout the season.

Cory Harkey is a fifth year tight end hailing from Chino Hills, CA. Harkey attended UCLA and has spent his entire football career with the Rams. Since the transition of the Rams to LA, Harkey has not only attended multiple Rams events, but he has also taken the initiative to do a few surprise visits on his own.

Q & A with Cory Harkey

Why is being involved in the community is important to you?
Giving back is a big deal to me. Growing up I always heard that it was important to give back to the community and I truly believe in that. It doesn’t matter how you decide to give back, it just matters that you do it. It’s nice to be in a position to bless someone else, and I always feel good knowing that I am able to make an impact.

Being a California native, is there anything that you’re passionate about doing in the Greater Los Angeles Area?
There’s nothing in particular that I’m passionate about. I just want to be able to contribute how I can. I’m blessed to be where I am and when the opportunity arises my goal is to always take advantage of it.

Who inspires you to be so involved?
Johnny Hekker does a lot in the community and I’ve noticed that. I think many of us on the team have noticed that. He has great leadership off the field. I have always had a lot of respect for how much he gives back, so he is probably one of the guys in our locker room that I would have to say inspires me.

What has your favorite event been thus far?
I honestly enjoy everything I do. Most recently I attended the Albertsons, Vons and Pavilions Community Tailgate Party with the Rams event. I had the opportunity to hang out and interact with kids as well as participate in a grocery bagging competition against Johnny (Hekker). We really felt the love from the community.
