Community Player of the Week: Jake McQuaide

The St. Louis Rams have announced long snapper Jake McQuaide as the team’s Community Player of the Week for Week 15.

The St. Louis Rams have announced long snapper Jake McQuaide as the team’s Community Player of the Week for Week 15.

Like Santa Claus during this time of year, McQuaide has been full of the giving spirit. He began last week by participating in Basket of Hope deliveries to children at Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital. He was joined by Basket of Hope ambassador and Rams running back Chase Reynolds, punter Johnny Hekker and fullback Zach Laskey. The quartette distributed baskets filled with games, toys, music and more to the patients and the patients’ parents.

“You can completely change their day just by showing up, smiling at them, or giving them a high five,” McQuaide said. “They think it’s the best thing in the world.”

Later in the week, McQuaide served as an honorary chairman for the Rams and Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis (BAMSL) Motion for Kids Holiday Party. Three thousand children in need -- who were pre-selected by BAMSL through various charities -- attended the event where they could share their holiday wish list with Santa, play games on the field at the Edward Jones Dome and meet St. Louis Rams players and cheerleaders. At the end of the event, each child went home with presents donated by Rams family members and BAMSL members and supporters.

“Motion for Kids is fun because you can see kids’ faces light up, and I always like to do things that involve kids,” McQuaide said. “Every kid deserves to have a great Christmas. I’m a new father, so it hits me a little bit harder. It’s amazing to see the community come together.”

McQuaide is also a part of the SSM Kick Cancer campaign with Hekker and kicker Greg Zuerlein. Funds generated through the program are donated to cancer research and awareness for every point kicked by the Rams this season. Additionally, he is a member of the Rams All-Community Team and purchases/donates tickets to every Rams home game to local non-profit organizations.
