Community Player of the Week: James Laurinaitis

The St. Louis Rams are recognizing linebacker James Laurinaitis as this week's Perficient Community Player of the Week.

The St. Louis Rams have announced James Laurinaitis as the team’s Community Player of the Week for week two. Laurinaitis is once again being recognized following his stellar leadership with Make-A-Wish Missouri and the Night of Wishes event.

For the sixth consecutive season, Laurinaitis was the host for the 20th annual “Night of Wishes,” where Rams players and cheerleaders raise money to grant wishes of children battling life-threatening diseases in partnership with Make-A-Wish Missouri. Much like he does on the field, Laurinaitis led the team to raise money for Make-A-Wish through a live auction and tip collection competition between the players. The money raised will grant more than 50 wishes for children, and since Laurinaitis has been the host, the Rams and Make-A-Wish have granted more than 150 wishes with the money raised through the annual event.

“The Make-A-Wish Night of Wishes is one of my favorite things to do here,” Laurinaitis said. “Make-A-Wish is an awesome organization. I’ve been a part of it since college.”

While Night of Wishes may be his most recognized community event, Laurinaitis doesn’t just stop there. He exudes the same mentality when out in the community as he does when he’s on the field; he leads by example.

“James is one of our community leaders who is always eager to assist us with our charitable efforts,” said Molly Higgins, St. Louis Rams vice president of corporate communications/civic affairs. “He’s someone who understands how blessed he is to play football for a living and he loves to share those blessings. He’s an incredible ambassador for the Rams and consummate professional. The Make-A-Wish kids and staff couldn’t possibly love him more. It’s really fun to see.”

In addition to his efforts with Make-A-Wish, the seventh-year pro has dedicated numerous hours in the community for organizations ranging from the St. Louis Area Foodbank to Backstoppers to the Urban League. Throughout his career he has participated in a multitude of events such as the Coach Fisher & Friends Celebrity Softball Game, Taste of the NFL and Kickoff for Charity Luncheon as well as multiple playground builds as part of the Rams annual community improvement project. As a member of the Rams All-Community Team, he also purchases game tickets to every Rams home game and donates them to local charities.

“I don’t do community work to be recognized, but it’s great,” Laurinaitis said of the Rams’ weekly community honor. “I know there are a bunch of other guys that are just as deserving.”
