The St. Louis Rams have announced Rodney McLeod as the team’s Community Player of the Week for week eight.

“It’s definitely an honor to be named Community Player of the Week, and I really appreciate it,” McLeod said. “I guess it’s a credit to the things I’ve been doing in the community, and those are things I enjoy doing.”

McLeod’s nomination comes at a very busy time for him. On Monday night, McLeod and 20 of his teammates attended the Taste of the NFL-St. Louis event, benefitting St. Louis Area Foodbank. In the event's 13th installment, McLeod mingled with guests, signing autographs and posing for photos, all to raise money and awareness for the Foodbank and its mission to feed the hungry in the St. Louis region. The event added to the $900,000 total the Rams have helped raise for St. Louis Foodbank through the annual event.

“It was my third year doing Taste of the NFL, and it’s always a lot of fun,” McLeod said. “Just great conversation, great food and a great time all around.”

Later in the week, McLeod hosted his second annual Halloween Huddle for Shriner’s Hospital for Children-St. Louis patients. McLeod had the children at America’s Incredible Pizza Company, where they participated in physical activities, played games and competed in Halloween costumes.

“It’s just a joy to see what they can do, regardless of their circumstances,” McLeod said. “I don’t feel like they get to see the real us on the playing field. So just being able to put a name to the face and have a normal conversation is really great.”

In addition to his charitable outreach this week, McLeod served as the honorary chair for the 2015 Steps for Hope Walk/Fun run hosted by the Cancer Support Community of Greater St. Louis during the offseason. The event celebrates cancer survivors, honors the memories of loved ones and supports the programs that Cancer Support Community St. Louis offer at no charge to area residents impacted by cancer.

McLeod is also a part of the Rams All-Community Team, a group of players, executives and alumni who purchase tickets for local charities and school groups to attend Rams home games.
