If there was ever any doubt, it shouldn't exist any longer:
Aaron Donald is the best player in the league.
That's according to his peers, as the Rams defensive tackle has come in at No. 1 on the 2019 NFL Top 100 list.
Donald has appeared on the Top 100 every year since he's been in the league, and he's quickly risen to the top. He was No. 92 in 2015, but jumped to No. 14 in 2016. While he fell to No. 15 in 2017 — following the Rams' 4-12 season — he was back at No. 7 in 2018.
Now he's at the top of the ranks, and only the second defensive player to do so since the rankings began back in 2011. Houston's J.J. Watt is the other defensive player to grace No. 1 overall, having received the honor back in 2015.
Donald set the league record for sacks by an interior lineman at 20.5 last year — a figure that also set a new Rams single-season record. Donald also led the league with 25 tackles for loss and 41 quarterback hits, becoming just the third player in league history to earn back-to-back AP Defensive Player of the Year awards.
With Donald on top, the Rams finish with six players in the Top 100, including safety Eric Weddle (No. 100), left tackle Andrew Whitworth (No. 91), wide receiver Robert Woods (No. 76), quarterback Jared Goff (No. 32), and running back Todd Gurley (No. 5).
