Brian Johnson enters his first season with the Los Angeles Rams as a senior offensive assistant.
He spent the previous two seasons with the Washington Commanders serving as their assistant head coach and offensive pass game coordinator (2024-25). During the 2024 season, Johnson worked closely with quarterback Jayden Daniels, who earned AP Rookie of the Year honors after throwing for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns with a 69.0 completion percentage. Daniels also rushed for 891 yards, a rookie single-season record, and six touchdowns. Daniels' 31 combined touchdowns ranked third all-time for a rookie quarterback in league history and tied with Kirk Cousins for the third-most in a single season in Washington franchise history. Daniels also earned Pepsi Rookie of the Week honors 10 times that season, a new NFL record.Â
Additionally in 2024, receiver Terry McLaurin recorded a franchise-record 13 touchdowns to go along with 1,096 yards. He registered 1,000-plus yards in five consecutive seasons and became one of four wide receivers to record at least 75 receptions and 1,000-plus receiving yards in five of their first six seasons.Â
Prior to his stint in Washington, Johnson spent three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles including one as the offensive coordinator (2023) and two as the quarterbacks coach (2021-22). In 2023, the Easgles offense finished eighth in total offense (354.4 yards per game), third in third down conversion rate (48%), first in fourth down conversion rate (73.1 %) and seventh in points per game (25.5).Â
In his two seasons as quarterbacks coach in Philadelphia, Johnson worked closely with quarterback Jalen Hurts. In 2022, Hurts finished second in Associated Press NFL MVP voting and earned his first All-Pro and Pro Bowl honors. He threw for 3,701 yards and 22 touchdowns while adding 760 rushing yards and 13 rushing touchdowns, the most for a quarterback that season. Under Johnson's guidance, Hurts became the youngest quarterback in Eagles history to lead his team to the playoffs during the 2021 season.Â
Before his stint in Philadelphia, Johnson spent three seasons at the University of Florida as the quarterbacks coach (2018-19) and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach (2020). During his time with the Gators, he mentored three All-America selections including quarterback Kyle Trask, tight end Kyle Pitts and receiver Kadarious Toney. The Gators offense also finished first in the FBS in passing yards per game (378.6) in 2020.Â
Johnson spent the 2017 season as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at the University of Houston.Â
From 2014-16, he worked as the quarterbacks coach at Mississippi State, where he mentored Dak Prescott as he became one of the best quarterbacks in SEC history. Prescott finished his collegiate career as one of two quarterbacks in conference history to throw for 8,500 yards and rush for 2,000 yards. In 2015, Prescott was named a finalist for the Manning and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Awards after setting school records in completions (316), completion percentage (66.2%), passing yards (3,793) and efficiency rating (151.7).Â
Johnson began his coaching career at his alma mater, Utah, as the quarterbacks coach before he was promoted to offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach after two seasons. In 2012, Johnson became the youngest FBS offensive coordinator in the nation at 24 years old.Â
A native of Baytown TX., Johnson and his wife, Ahley, have three children, Rossi, Harlow and Pierce.
