Ventrone enters his first season with the Los Angeles Rams as the special teams coordinator.
He spent the previous three seasons with the Cleveland Browns serving in the same capacity as well as the assistant head coach.
Ventrone has more than 20 years of NFL experience, both as a coach and a player. He has appeared in three Super Bowls, one as a player (2007) and two as a coach (2016, 2017).
During the 2025 season, the Browns' special teams unit finished 10th in field goal percentage (89.3%). During the 2024 season, the unit finished seventh in yards per punt (49.3) and 11th in yards per punt return (10.0). Ventrone helped punter Corey Bojorquez lead the NFL in punts downed inside the 10-yard line (16) and rank third in punts downed inside the 20-yard line (36), a franchise record.
In his first season as the Browns special teams coordinator in 2023, Ventrone helped the kicking and punting units set several franchise records. Kicker Dustin Hopkins' 33 made field goals were the most by a Browns player in a single season and his eight 50-plus yard field goals were also a team record. He finished the season second behind Jim Brown (126 in 1965) for the most points scored by a Brown in a season with 123 points scored. Hopkins also set an NFL record with at least one 50-plus yard field goal in five consecutive games. Bojorquez set a franchise record with 49.4 yards per punt average, while his 31 punts downed inside the 20-yard line were one away from the team record. The Browns also led the league with three blocked field goals in 2023.
Prior to his time with the Browns, Ventrone spent five seasons with the Indianapolis Colts as their special teams coordinator. During his tenure in Indianapolis, the Colts led the NFL in kickoff return average (24.9). Ventrone helped multiple special teams players to the AP All-Pro team, including Ashton Dulin (Second-Team, 2021), Luke Rhodes (First-Team, 2021; Second-Team, 2020), and George Odum (First-Team, 2020). Rhodes also was named to the Pro Bowl in 2021. Ventrone helped build a top-10 special teams unit in each of the last three seasons with the Colts. In 2019, the Colts special teams unit set an NFL record in punt return average (17.4).
He began his coaching career as an assistant special teams coach with the Patriots from 2015-17 and helped the Patriots win Super Bowl LI. During his tenure, Matthew Slater was voted to the Pro Bowl as a special teamer all three seasons and Kicker Stephen Gostkowski led the NFL in scoring in 2015.
Ventrone also served as the head coach for the American team during the 2025 Reese's Senior Bowl.
As a player, Ventrone appeared in 97 career games during his 10-year NFL career with the Patriots (2007-08), Browns (2009-12) and 49ers (2013-14). He recorded 13 defensive tackles, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries and 57 special teams stops. He was a member of the Patriots team that advanced to Super Bowl XLII.
He is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennnsylvannia and attended Villanova University, where he was a three-time Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team honoree. His brother, Ross, played in the NFL from 2010-16.
He and his wife, Katie, have two daughters, Ava and Ella, and a son, Major.
