Biography

NFL Career:

  • Has played a total of 181 snaps during the regular season and postseason and recorded 20 tackles (12 solo).
  • Started in the Wild Card win over the Cardinals and the Divisional Round win against the Bucs during the 2021 playoffs.
  • Was active for all games during the 2021 season.
  • Made his NFL debut in a Week 1 victory at SoFi Stadium against the Cowboys in 2020.
  • Suffered a broken ankle in a week 7 contest against the Bears and was declared out for the remainder of the 2020 season.
  • Played 46 total snaps in 2020 and recorded 5 tackles (4 solo).

College*:* In 2019, Burgess started all 14 games as a strong safety at Utah and finished third on the team with 81 tackles. His 81 tackles led the defensive backs and included 7.5 TFL and 0.5 sacks. His two fumble recoveries ranked second on the team and tied for fourth in the Pac-12. Burgess also recorded six passes defensed and one interception on the year. Against Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship, he recorded a career-high 12 tackles with a pass defensed. Burgess also tallied nine tackles, 1.5 TFL, 0.5 sacks and a fumble recovery against UCLA and recorded his first interception against USC. As a junior in 2018, Burgess played in all 14 games (two starts). He earned second-team Pac-12 All- Academic honors consecutive years in 2019 and 2018. 

Personal*:* Burgess was an All-CIF San Diego Section first-team wide receiver as a senior and second-team defensive back as a junior at San Marcos High School. He was the no. 6 ranked cornerback in California by Scout.com and recorded eight career interceptions and 90 career tackles at defensive back. He also recorded 73 career receptions for 1,288 yards and 17 touchdowns as a receiver and ran track at San Marcos High School with a personal-best time of 11.14 in the 100 and 22.31 in the 200 meters. He is the son of Tyrone and Ingrid Burgess and has four siblings. His brother Isiah Hennie was a two-time honorable mention All- Big Sky wide receiver at Sacramento State (2014-17). Burgess majored in kinesiology and received his degree in December 2019.

Community Impact: Burgess has been involved in a variety of charitable efforts during his time with the Rams. Since being drafted in 2020, he has purchased holiday harvest bags for more more than 100 families with Children's Institute, participated in the team's annual Taste of the Rams event to combat hunger in Los Angeles, led a discussion with young adults housed by the LA County Probation Department, chatted with youth from Exceptional Children's Foundation, supported an Inglewood restaurant during the COVID-19 pandemic and much more.
