SEATTLE â The Rams' 2025 season came to a close with a 31-27 loss to the Seahawks in the NFC Championship Sunday night at Lumen Field.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford finished 22 of 35 passing for 374 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. While the Rams had a shot at a go-ahead touchdown late in the fourth quarter, untimely defensive and special teams miscues at other points in the game proved costly. Stafford and the Los Angeles offense got the ball back with 25 seconds left trailing by four, but had to go 93 yards for a potential game-winning drive and without any timeouts left.
Wide receiver Puka Nacua had nine receptions for 165 yards and one touchdown in the loss, while wide receiver Davante Adams had four receptions for 89 yards and one touchdown.
Both teams combined for 875 total yards of offense in the game.
Here is the complete game recap, presented by Toyota:
After the Rams went 3-and-out on the opening drive, the Seahawks used a 51-yard completion from Darnold to Shaheed on the next series to move into Rams territory. Four plays after that explosive pass play, Seattle reached the endzone on a 2-yard run by running back Kenneth Walker III to take an early 7-0 lead.
Los Angeles answered with a deep ball of its own, as Stafford connected with Nacua for a 44-yard gain on the following drive to move L.A. to the Seattle 26. However, three-straight incompletions after that forced the Rams to settle for a 44-yard field goal which cut the Seahawks' lead to four with 8:15 to go in the first quarter.
The Seahawks again moved the ball efficiently on offense, largely behind Walker III, on their second possession, but that series stalled after a redzone stand by the Rams defense led them to settling for a 27-yard field goal to go up 10-3 with 54 seconds left in the first quarter. That scoring drive erased seven minutes and 21 seconds of game clock.
Another explosive completion â 23 yards from Stafford to Adams â in addition to efficiency running the football brought Los Angeles back into Seattle territory on the following drive. However, Stafford getting sacked on 3rd and 10 from the Seattle 23 three plays after that gain by Adams forced L.A. to settle for a 50-yard field goal by Mevis with 12:11 to play in the second quarter.
Thanks to a fumbled snap by Darnold and defensive end Braden Fiske's sack for a loss of eight yards, the Rams got their first big stop of the game defensively. However, the ensuing Seahawks punt was momentarily bobbled then recovered by returner Xavier Smith after Smith dove onto the ball.
Following a similar recipe as their previous drive, the Rams' offense used an efficient run game â and this time explosives in both the pass game (21-yard completion from Stafford to Nacua) and run game (19-yard run by running back Blake Corum on a counter draw) to take their first lead 13-10 on a nine-yard passing touchdown from Stafford to running back Kyren Williams with 1:55 left in the first half. That scoring drive erased seven minutes and 23 seconds of game clock.
Another defensive stop gave the ball back to the Rams offense with 1:33 to go in the first half, but the Rams were forced to put at the end of that series. A 42-yard completion from Darnold to wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba brought Seattle to the L.A. 22 with 37 seconds left in the first half, then Darnold connected with Smith-Njigba again four plays later on a 14-yard touchdown pass that regained the lead for the Seahawks 17-13 with 20 seconds left in the first half.
The Rams attempted to get into field goal range before before halftime, but were unable to come away with any points.
Los Angeles' defense got a pivotal stop forcing Seattle to punt on the opening drive of the second half, but a muffed fair catch by Smith set up a 17-yard touchdown pass from Darnold to wide receiver Jake Bobo which extended the Seattle lead to 24-13 with 12:02 left in the third quarter.
However, L.A. answered quickly with a three-play, 79-yard touchdown scoring drive to trim their deficit back to four on a two-yard touchdown pass from Stafford to wide receiver Davante Adams with 9:41 left in the third quarter.
The Seahawks responded with a methodical scoring drive capped by a 13-yard touchdown pass from Darnold to wide receiver Cooper Kupp to push their lead to 31-20 with 4:52 to go in the third quarter.
Despite another explosive completion from Stafford to Adams (35 yards) on the next series, the Rams were on the verge of punting until a taunting penalty against Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen gave the Rams 15 yards and an automatic first down to keep the drive alive. The next play, Stafford fired a 34-yard touchdown pass to Nacua to pull the Rams back within four with 2:06 left in the third quarter. Officials upheld the call upon further video review.
Cornerback Cobie Durant's third-down pass breakup forced Seattle to punt, giving Los Angeles the ball back with 12:18 to play in the fourth quarter. L.A. went for it on 4th and 1 from the Seattle 26 and converted on a Stafford scramble. Five plays later, the were again forced to go for it on 4th down, but Stafford's pass on 4th and 4 from the Seattle 6 was incomplete, resulting in a turnover on downs.
Getting the ball back with 4:54 remaining, the Seahawks drained a significant amount of clock that forced the Rams to burn their remaining timeouts via third-down conversions by a Kupp catch and later a defensive holding penalty against the Rams. Although the Rams eventually forced the Seahawks to punt, they got the ball back at their own 7 with 25 seconds left and without any timeouts remaining, unable to mount a game-winning drive. Stafford completed a 21-yard pass to Nacua that got them to the Seattle 49, but the clock expired as Nacua landed in bounds.
