Rams Place Talib on IR, Promote Hatfield from Practice Squad

The Rams have placed cornerback Aqib Talib on injured reserve and promoted cornerback Dominique Hatfield from the practice squad to the active roster.

Talib suffered an ankle injury that will require surgery during Sunday's 35-23 victory over the Chargers. According to head coach Sean McVay, Talib will undergo surgery to repair his ankle on Thursday.

Being placed on injured reserve, Talib will be out for at least eight weeks. McVay, however, has said the club expects Talib to return at some point this season. That would make Talib eligible to return just in time for the last month of the year.

The Rams are allowed to designate two players to return from injured reserve. All-Pro returner Pharoh Cooper appears to be another candidate to return from IR at some point this season.

After suffering a calf strain on Sunday, cornerback Marcus Peters is considered day-to-day and will likely be a game-day decision to play in Thursday's contest against the Vikings. Cornerbacks Sam Shields, Nickell Robey-Coleman, and Troy Hill are expected to receive heavy playing time this week.

As a corresponding roster move, Los Angeles also promoted cornerback Dominique Hatfield from the practice squad to the active roster. Hatfield played in 11 games last year, recording three defensive tackles.
