The Seattle Seahawks came back to beat the Carolina Panthers 30-27 in Charlotte in Sunday's early slate of NFL action — keeping the Los Angeles Rams out of the playoffs for at least one more week.
With a Panthers victory, the Rams would have become just the second team in NFL history to clinch a playoff berth during its bye week. The Packers punched their ticket in their week off back in 1938.
Head coach Sean McVay and company are now in control of their own destiny traveling to Detroit next Sunday.
With a win in Detroit, or Seattle loss to the 49ers in Week 13, the Rams — who own the season tiebreaker with Seattle — will be crowned NFC West Champions for the second consecutive season.
The Rams have not posted back-to-back division titles since 1978 and 1979.
