Defensive back Trumaine Johnson officially signed his franchise tag with the Los Angeles Rams on Monday as first reported by Peter Schrager of FoxSports.com.

Johnson enters his sixth season with the Rams after a 2016 campaign where he posted career-highs with 13 pass deflections and two fumble recoveries.

"I feel blessed, honored and really grateful to the organization for placing the tag on me for the second year," Johnson said. "It starts at the top – from Mr. Kroenke, to Les Snead and to Coach McVay, I'm thankful. This is my third contract and I'm back with my brothers, my teammates again. I'm glad that I get to come back and play with these guys another season and I'm excited to be back."

According to Pro Football Focus, Johnson has only surrendered 10 touchdowns across 338 career targets and allowed a passer rating of 72.6 when targeted over his career.

Johnson becomes the first cornerback to be tagged in back-to-back seasons since Charles Woodson of the Oakland Raiders in 2004 and 2005.
