Meet Chris

Christopher Aninye is an Associate Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Rams. His job is about so much more than weights and workouts — it's about helping athletes reach their potential while knowing he genuinely has their best interests at heart. He believes his voice, honesty, and ability to build real relationships are just as important as the sets and reps he programs.

Path After High School

After high school, Chris attended Alabama A&M University. At first, he dreamed of playing football and becoming a sports broadcaster. But during his second year, he realized coaching was his true calling. He changed his major, worked hard to graduate, and then went on to graduate school. Along the way, he volunteered as a high school football and strength coach, which was an experience that gave him hands-on training and opened the door to his career today.

Looking back, he says Alabama A&M was one of the best choices he ever made. The education was strong, but the life lessons mattered even more: learning to handle his own business, communicate well with others, and create friendships that would last. He says he "went to A&M as a boy and left as a man."

Not every step was smooth. At one point, Christopher left a good job to chase a dream he later realized wasn't right. That reset taught him patience and reminded him of what matters most: working with solid people and valuing relationships as much as salary.

STEAM in Action

Christopher says there's STEAM in strength and conditioning every single day.

  • Science: Exercise Science helps him study how activity changes the body.
  • Technology: Tools like GPS trackers and Sprint AI monitor speeds and data.
  • Art: Visuals help athletes understand the "why" behind training.
  • Math: Every program comes down to numbers. Balancing volume and intensity ensures players get stronger and faster without overtraining.

The Best Part of Chris's Job

Working for the Rams is a dream come true. As a 7th grader, Chris told his mom while watching a commercial, "I'm going to be in a commercial like that one day." He may not have ended up in the ad, but becoming an NFL strength coach — after starting out as a high school football coach — was beyond anything he imagined.

Christopher's Advice for Students

If you want to get a job in this field one day, do whatever you can to explore and learn about the industry. Shadow a strength coach, volunteer if you get the chance, and above all, you still gotta train!
