Notable Colts additions

  • Signed quarterback Daniel Jones to a one-year deal on March 13: Brought in to compete with 2023 No. 4 overall pick Anthony Richardson, Jones later won the starting job and has not looked back. Through the first three weeks of the season, his 816 passing yards are third-most in the NFL.
  • Hired Lou Anarumo as defensive coordinator on Jan. 21: Rams fans will recognize this name, as Anarumo held the same role with the Bengals over the last six seasons. Entering Week 4, the Colts rank in the top 10 in fewest total yards of offense per game allowed and points per game allowed.

Top performers in Week 3

Jones completed 18 of 25 pass attempts for 228 yards and one touchdown in Indianapolis' 41-20 divisional win over the Tennessee Titans.

Running back Jonathan Taylor commanded the Colts' backfield with 17 carries for 102 yards and three rushing touchdowns.

Wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. was Jones' top target in the passing game, finishing with six catches for 73 yards and one touchdown.

Defensive end Tyquan Lewis paced Indianapolis' defense with three total tackles (three for loss) and two sacks.

On special teams, kicker Spencer Shrader made 2 of 3 field goal attempts (51-yard try missed wide right), while punter Rigoberto Sanchez's lone punt went for 46 yards. It was his first time punting this season, which tells how productive and efficient the Colts' offense has been.

Early storylines to watch, and what they mean for the Rams

Colts head coach Shane Steichen named Jones the team's starting quarterback because of the consistency Jones showed. And he was quick to point out that it would be for the season – no short leash for Jones.

"The operation, the communication in the huddle, the checks, getting guys on the same page," Steichen told Indianapolis reporters last month. "The consistency of all that, obviously, is going to play a big factor in this."

Jones has rewarded Steichen's faith by leading the league's No. 2 offense in total yards per game (418.7) and No. 2 scoring offense (34.3 points per game, tied with the Lions). The Colts have been able to get this production without the burden falling entirely on Jones' shoulders, either, as evidenced by Taylor's performance.

Controlling time of possession on offense, and also creating takeaways on defense, will both be important for Los Angeles on Sunday in order to limit Indianapolis' high-powered offense.
