Goff, Offensive Starters Will Not Play vs. Texans

Quarterback Jared Goff will not play in Saturday's game against the Texans.

Head coach Sean McVay appeared to be leaning that way on Thursday, when he also mentioned that right tackle Rob Havenstein could miss this week with an ankle injury.

McVay previously announced that running back Todd Gurley, left tackle Andrew Whitworth, and center John Sullivan would not play in the contest. Now we know that all the offensive starters will rest against Houston — including wide receivers Robert Woods, Brandin Cooks, and Cooper Kupp.

Of the regular starters, only right guard Jamon Brown — who is suspended for the first two games of 2018 — will play against Houston.

Defensively, Los Angeles will play its regular starters — including new acquisitions Ndamukong Suh, Aqib Talib, and Marcus Peters. Defensive linemen Michael Brockers and Ethan Westbrooks are expected to line up next to Suh to begin the game. It will be Brockers' first action since injuring his knee during the playoff game against Atlanta back in January.

Of the defensive starters, only inside linebacker Mark Barron will not play.

Though the starters will play, it seems likely that they won't be out there for very long — a couple series or a quarter at most.

Kickoff is slated for 1 o'clock pacific. The game will be televised locally on KCBS and streamed where available on therams.com. You can also listen to the radio broadcast on ESPN LA.
