Meet Sebastian
Sebastian Zorn is the Head Team Performance Dietitian for the Rams — which means he helps players fuel up so they can perform at their very best. From what's on their plate to how much water they drink to how much sleep they get, Sebastian takes complicated science and translates it into simple, everyday choices athletes can actually use. When the Rams take the field, the work he's done behind the scenes helps give them the energy and focus to compete.
Path After High School
After graduating high school in Berkeley, CA, Sebastian studied nutrition at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. It was there he realized something important: he could combine two passions — science and sports — into one career. College gave him a strong foundation in science and problem-solving, but it also helped him see the connection between what he loved in the classroom and what he loved on the field. Not everything was straightforward, though. Early in college, he worked as a line cook, which is a person who works in a restaurant kitchen, preparing and cooking food at one of the "lines" or stations (like grilling, frying, or making salads).
That experience taught him something surprising … that professional cooking wasn't for him. But it was still valuable. Sebastian learned that trying new things, even ones that don't turn into a career, shapes who you are. Sometimes learning what you don't want to do is just as important as discovering what you love.
STEAM In Action
Sebastian's work is rooted in STEAM:
- Science: Understanding how food, hydration, and supplements affect the body. He studies the details of how energy is created and used so players can recover faster and perform at their best.
- Technology: Using apps and tracking systems to monitor nutrition and performance. Technology gives him real-time data about athletes, helping him make decisions that are personal and precise.
- Math: Analyzing data, bloodwork, and body composition. Numbers matter when you're figuring out the right balance of fuel for a player's size, position, and goals.
The Best Part of Sebastian's Job
Sebastian's favorite part of working with the Rams is being part of something bigger than himself. Everyone on the team — from players to coaches to staff — has a role to play. When all of those roles come together, the result is something special both on the field and in the community.
Did You Know?
Most people think a dietitian's job is only about food. But Sebastian explains that a big part of the job is building trust and relationships with athletes. Plans only work if players believe in them, so his job is as much about people as it is about nutrition.
Sebastian's Advice for Students
Sebastian's advice is simple but powerful: be curious and keep learning. Don't worry if your path isn't straight — every experience will teach you something valuable. He encourages students to look for ways to combine their passions, because that's often where the most exciting and fulfilling careers are built.
