Easley, Austin Being Evaluated for Injuries

Defensive lineman Dominique Easley and wide receiver Tavon Austin both left Tuesday's training camp practice due to injury and did not return. But the extent of the injuries for both were not immediately known following practice.

"We will get an update on that later," head coach Sean McVay said. "He's going to go get examined and we're going to find out more specifically on what's going on with him."

"Same thing with Dominique," McVay said when asked about Austin, "we're going to get it checked out. And it looked like it was just a minor tissue issue with something in his leg and we will find out more specifically with the severity of that and how long that will affect him."

If Easley's injury is serious, it would deplete the depth the Rams have constructed on the defensive line. That's especially because Los Angeles is currently without defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who has not reported to camp as the club and his representation negotiate a contract extension.

"Aaron is not here for different reasons, but if for whatever reason, this is an extended absence for Dominique — who has done a great job in Aaron's absence — then somebody else will be ready to step up. And that's what our job is as coaches and the guys that are on this roster is to step up and fill those voids," McVay said. "But certainly those are two very important players to us. We would love for Aaron to be here and we'd love for Dominique to get a good report where he is healthy, but if that is not the situation then we have to be ready to react accordingly."

Easley has an unfortunate history of lower-leg injuries. The defensive lineman tore both ACLs while in college at Florida. As a rookie for the Patriots in 2014, Easley was placed on injured reserve in December for a knee injury. And then he suffered a torn quad late in the 2015 season, which landed him on IR once again.

The defensive lineman signed with the Rams last May and played well in his rotational role last season, finishing 2016 with 3.5 sacks. He signed his one-year tender as an unrestricted free agent over the offseason to remain with L.A.
