Feature: Terrance Ferguson records first career touchdown in Rams' Week 7 win over Jaguars

LONDON – Sunday's game against the Jaguars marked the fifth time Rams tight end Terrance Ferguson had been active for a game this season. The previous four games, he received targets in just one – Week 4 against the 49ers – and one of those two targets was hauled in for his first catch.

Targeted a season-high three times, Ferguson just as did he three weeks ago made his lone catch count, this time for his first career touchdown in Los Angeles' 35-7 road win over Jacksonville at Wembley Stadium.

"What a great, patient route," head coach Sean McVay said. "What a great job by him."

Ferguson said it was a "great call" by McVay, one set up after running out of 13 personnel numerous times previously in the game.

"I was running the route, he was already panicking on the run in the corner, and then so the post was just wide open," Ferguson said. "I'm just blessed to be put in that opportunity, the coaches and everyone to trust me. And obviously it was a great throw right, right in the bread basket."

Ferguson's usage has varied through the first seven weeks of his rookie season, but leaning on his faith and "trusting God's timing" as well as the Rams' coaches and the process itself has kept patience and perspective.

"So it meant a lot for all that to come to fruition, to be able to score a touchdown in a big game with the guys," Ferguson said.

Even if the opportunities have been few and far between so far, Ferguson has tended to made them count. His first career catch went for a 21-yard gain and conversion on third down a few weeks ago, and his first touchdown catch came on 4th-and-1 from the Jaguars 31.

No matter which direction it goes from here, he'll remain grounded and patient – and ready when the next time comes.

"Honestly, I'd say take it back to the coaches that put me in good situations, trust me in big moments, the fourth down and that third down," Ferguson said. "And showing my ability make to make explosive plays and get open. It definitely means a lot when those are kind of big moments, but everyone just trusted me, and obviously it's a cool thing."
