Free Agent Spotlight: Roger McCreary adds versatile depth in defensive backfield after midseason acquisition

The Rams acquired cornerback Roger McCreary in a trade with the Titans on October 27.

He appeared on special teams in his first three games as a Ram, and then was injured during his first defensive snap played for Los Angeles in Week 12, sidelining him until Week 17.

When he returned, McCreary he played primarily in the slot/box while safety Quentin Lake rehabbed from an elbow injury. Lake returned during the playoffs and McCreary's role shifted. He became part of the outside cornerback rotation, playing 27 snaps at outside corner in the divisional round compared to 12 snaps in the box, according to Pro Football Focus. He played 21 snaps on the outside and four in the box in the NFC Championship Game.

McCreary ended the season with 12 total tackles and one passes defended as a Ram, including playoffs. Now, he's a pending unrestricted free agent with his contract scheduled to expire at the start of the new league year on March 11.

With cornerbacks Ahkello Witherspoon, Cobie Durant and Derion Kendrick also set to hit the open market as free agents, the Rams will have some choices to make when putting together their defensive backfield for 2026. McCreary was only in L.A. for a short time, but he adds versatility as someone who can play both inside and outside at what many analysts view as a position of need for the Rams.
