Game Recap: Rams clinch NFC's No. 5 seed with 37-20 win over Cardinals in Week 18

INGLEWOOD, Calif. – The Rams (12-5) defeated the Cardinals 37-20 on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.

The victory clinched the No. 5 seed in the NFC for Los Angeles, which means it will travel to face the Carolina Panthers at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte for next week's Wild Card round of the playoffs. It also marked head coach Sean McVay and general manager Les Snead's 100th win (across regular season and postseason) as a head coach-general manager duo, becoming the 15th such duo to reach the 100-win mark (third among active duos).

Quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 25 of 40 pass attempts for 259 passing yards and four touchdowns in the win, passing Dan Marino for seventh on the NFL's all-time career passing touchdowns list, and also Matt Ryan for sixth on the NFL's all-time career completions list with his performance. He also became the third player in NFL history with multiple TD passes in 15 games in a season, joining Pro Football Hall-of-Famers Peyton Manning (2013 with Denver) and Dan Marino (1984 with Miami).

Returning from injury, tight end Tyler Higbee posted five receptions for a team-high 91 receiving yards and one touchdown; tight end Colby Parkinson (four receptions for 36 yards and two touchdowns) and wide receiver Puka Nacua (10 catches for 76 yards and one touchdown) accounted for the rest of Stafford's touchdowns.

Here is the complete came recap, presented by the Hawai'i Tourism Authority:

A sack-fumble caused by outside linebacker Josaiah Stewart was recovered by defensive end Kobie Turner on the opening drive, but the Rams were forced to settle for a 34-yard field goal by kicker Harrison Mevis on the ensuing possession for an early 3-0 lead.

The Cardinals answered that field goal with one of their own, a 45-yarder by kicker Chad Ryland that capped an almost eight-minute scoring drive, to tie the game 3-3 with 3:26 left in the first quarter.

Los Angeles' ensuing offensive series stalled in the redzone, and again they settled for a Mevis field goal – this time from 42 yards – to take a 6-3 lead with 11:45 left in the second quarter.

Arizona responded with a 56-yard field goal by Ryland to tie the game 6-6 with 9:35 remaining in the second quarter.

The Rams were positioned to go up a touchdown after Stafford's 6-yard touchdown pass to Nacua just under the 2-minute mark of the first half, until that play was overturned upon further review and Nacua was ruled short of the line to gain. After running back Kyren Williams was stopped for a loss of a yard on 3rd and goal from the Cardinals 1, the Rams went for it and converted on a 2-yard touchdown pass on a fade ball from Stafford to Nacua, to take a 13-6 lead over the Cardinals with 1:22 to play in the first half.

Mevis added a 40-yard field goal attempt as time expired in the first half to give Los Angeles a 16-6 lead at halftime.

After the Rams went 3-and-out to open the second half, the Cardinals sustained their ensuing possession with a completion on a fake punt. The next play, Brissett connected with wide receiver Michael Wilson on a 43-yard touchdown pass that cut the Rams' lead to three with 10:38 left in the third quarter.

A second-consecutive three-and-out to start the second half by Los Angeles provided Arizona the opportunity to mount a scoring drive that gave it a 20-16 lead over L.A. via a 7-yard touchdown pass from Brissett to tight end Josiah Deguara with 3:51 left in the third quarter.

However, the Rams responded with a 21-yard touchdown pass from Stafford to tight end Colby Parkinson to regain the lead 23-20 with 42 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

The Rams' offense then returned the favor to a three-and-out by their defense via a 22-yard touchdown pass from Stafford to tight end Tyler Higbee to push their lead to 10 early in the fourth quarter. Stafford's 1-yard touchdown pass to Parkinson with 4:15 left in the fourth quarter extended that lead to 17, effectively putting the game out of reach for the Cardinals.

Arizona reached the L.A. 12-yard line with 1:55 left, but Brissett getting sacked on fourth down stifled that last gasp.
