Injury Updates: Rams place Ahkello Witherspoon on Injured Reserve with broken clavicle; Sean McVay gives updates on Braden Fiske (oblique), Colby Parkinson (shoulder) and Jordan Whittington (groin)

The Rams are placing cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon on Injured Reserve after he broke his clavicle against the Titans in Week 2. He will be sidelined for at least four weeks before he is eligible for return.

On Monday, McVay said that they don't believe the injury will require surgery, but they are looking at around a 12-week recovery period. He didn't eliminate the possibility that Witherspoon could return near the end of the season.

Witherspoon signed a one-year deal with the Rams in mid-March and was entering his third year with the team, but his first with a full offseason of preparation. McVay said postgame that it's "a big loss" for the team, and he feels for Witherspoon.

To address that now-vacant roster spot, McVay said they are working through a plan to "bring somebody in" at cornerback from outside the roster.

However, he reiterated that the coaching staff feels like they have three other starting-caliber corners with Emmanuel Forbes Jr., Cobie Durant and Darious Williams. All three played in Week 2 after Witherspoon exited early in the second quarter, and each of them registered a pass breakup.

"I feel terrible for Ahkello," McVay said. "Love him, such a bummer. But you do feel fortunate to have the depth where you know a guy like D-Will (Williams) can step up to supplement both Cobie and Forbes."

Other updates

Offensive lineman Steve Avila (ankle) is making "good progress" in his rehab after not playing in Week 2, McVay said, adding that Avila's status is "week to week." Tight end Colby Parkinson (shoulder) is also progressing well from an AC joint sprain sustained in Week 1, while wide receiver Jordan Whittington had some goin soreness.

Meanwhile, defensive end Braden Fiske "tweaked his oblique" in pregame warmups on Sunday, and was able to play through it on a limited snap count.

"He's feeling better today, but he'll be a guy that we'll monitor throughout the course of the week," McVay said of Fiske.
