Feature: Harrison Mevis' rookie season meant 'everything' to him after staying ready for an opportunity

Harrison Mevis was on his way to practice kicking when he got a call from his agent. The Rams wanted to give him a tryout ahead of their Week 10 game against the 49ers. By the end of the day, he was in Los Angeles. By the end of the week, he had won the starting job.

Despite the fact that Mevis hadn't been on an NFL roster since the Jets cut him ahead of the regular season, Mevis prepared every week as if he would be kicking on an NFL field on Sunday. That mindset paid off, as Mevis hit 18 of 19 field goal attempts (including playoffs) and all 48 extra points. That success meant "everything" to him.

"I think you, you kind of saw the results there," Mevis said. "It works. It's a lot like golf and you kinda keep it simple and you'll make kicks. Don't overcomplicate it."

Mevis gave credit to punter/holder Ethan Evans, long snapper Jake McQuaide and the protection group for facilitating his success this season.

Mevis spent time with the Jets, Panthers and UFL Birmingham Stallions before arriving in Los Angeles. He was immediately struck by the closeness of the Rams' locker room.

"Being with a few other teams, just coming in here and seeing what they had here, it was a tight knit... everyone was very close and it was really cool to see," Mevis said.

Having just finished the season, Mevis has not yet thought about his future with the team or in the league. What he does know is that he'll be "ready to make the next kick, whenever that comes," just like he was when the Rams called.
