Rams head coach Sean McVay on Friday said offensive lineman Kevin Dotson sustained an ankle sprain in the team's Thursday Night Football loss to the Seahawks.
That injury occurred in the first quarter of Thursday night's game at Lumen Field in Seattle. Dotson did not return after being carted back to the locker room.
Seahawks linebacker Derick Hall stomped on Dotson while Dotson was down on the ground – an act for which the NFL announced it suspended Hall one game without pay – and while McVay said the injury occurred before Hall's act, "it certainly didn't help the matters and it was definitely not stuff we want in our game."
McVay said Dotson's status will "be possibly in doubt for the Falcons game."
Second-year offensive lineman Justin Dedich took over for Dotson at right guard, and what he brought "has been consistent with what he's been about," McVay said.
"This guy's always just kind of delivered, game's not too big for him," McVay said. "He's tough. He plays tough, he plays physical. He's a great communicator. He understands the intent of what we're trying to get done. I thought he was really productive in both phases. If Kevin's not able to go, we'll obviously miss Kevin a bunch. But in the meantime, it's a real luxury to have a guy that's had as much experience in his first two years as as Justin has, and plays winning football for us."
As for wide receiver Davante Adams (knee/hamstring), who missed Thursday night's game after re-aggravating a hamstring injury against the Lions in Week 15, McVay said he "most likely" will not be available." With Adams out, the Rams took a committee approach to replacing him between the involvement of wide receivers Konata Mumpfield, Xavier Smith, and Jordan Whittington. McVay also praised Los Angeles' tight ends for the way they positively impacted the game.
McVay said they haven't really talked about keeping Adams out until the playoffs with a playoff spot already clinched.
"I think we really just take it a little bit at a time," McVay said. "This guy's a great competitor. He wants to be out there. I say 'most likely' with Atlanta, (but) Davante's going to do everything he can to push to be available for that. And then it's our job to be able to kind of figure out what is best collectively with him. He's a player that deserves to be involved in those types of conversations because of the respect, the experience, but that's something that we've discussed at this point."
The Rams face the Falcons at Mercedes Benz Stadium on Monday Night Football in Week 17.
