Newcomer Update: Coleman Shelton

With the offseason program complete and Rams Training Camp starting up on July 22, it's time to look ahead. As part of the preparation for training camp, theRams.com will be spotlighting a handful of players new to the Rams' roster. Up next in the series is offensive lineman Coleman Shelton.

How He Got Here: After becoming an unrestricted free agent at the start of the new league year, Shelton signed a two-year deal with the Rams on March 13. General manager Les Snead later confirmed the team signed Shelton with the expectation he would be its starting center.

What's Next: Continuing to learn the Rams' 2025 offense. The center position carries great importance to not only the offensive line but the entire unit itself, between understanding protection calls, when to make audibles and also being in sync with the quarterback. Learning the offense is not to say Shelton is starting from scratch – he has played in this system before – but given head coach Sean McVay has a vision for a more versatile offense in 2025, one of Shelton's most important tasks will be getting down the new wrinkles installed in the run game and the pass game.

Bet You Didn't Know: Shelton's Wins-Above-Replacement metric from Pro Football Focus was top 10 for centers in 2024. PFF's Wins-Above-Replacement model "evaluates how well a player performed, assesses his actions and their importance to winning football games and tracks how often those actions occurred," according to its website.

Quotable: "It was really great to get Coleman Shelton back. His command, his ability to elevate and uplift those around him, I think that's been really special." – McVay on Shelton on June 18
