Robert Woods signs one-day contract to retire as a Ram

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – Former Rams wide receiver Robert Woods signed a one-day contract to retire as a member of the team on Tuesday.

"After 27 unforgettable years of pouring my heart into this game, and 13 incredible years in the NFL – It's time for me to step away from playing the sport that has given me everything," Woods said in a post on his Instagram account. "Football has never been a game to me – it has been my passion, my purpose, and my lifelong dream. I cherished every moment my cleats touched the grass. Every time I stepped onto the field, I was determined to leave a piece of myself in every snap."

One of the first free agent signings of the Sean McVay era in Los Angeles alongside offensive lineman Andrew Whitworth in the spring of 2017, Woods played five of his 12 seasons the Rams – most he spent with any team in his career – and enjoyed the most productive stretch of his career with 367 receptions for 4,626 yards and 23 touchdowns in that span. That nearly doubled his production in each of those respective categories compared to his first four NFL seasons with the Bills. He was also an integral part of establishing the culture within the wide receiver room and the locker room in McVay's first season.

That time in L.A. was highlighted by back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons, the first of which marked the first time in his career achieving the team. A torn Achilles sustained during practice in mid-November prematurely ended what became his final season with the Rams, but his impact was still felt throughout the team's Super Bowl LVI-winning playoff run that year.

In March 2022, Woods was traded from the Rams to the Titans. A year later, he signed a two-year deal with the Texans. While he spent the majority of the 2025 offseason with the Pittsburgh Steelers, that 2024 season in Houston ultimately marked his final one.

Originally a second-round draft pick (41st overall) out of USC in 2013 by the Buffalo Bills, Woods concludes his NFL career with 683 receptions for 8,233 yards and 38 touchdowns across those 12 seasons, starting in 145 of 171 regular season games played. He started 67 of 68 regular season games played with the Rams, and also started all six playoff games he played in Los Angeles.

Prior to entering the NFL, he starred locally at Serra High School in Gardena and later for the University of Southern California.
