College: During his time at Nebraska, Maher appeared in 54 games and converted 102-of-103 extra points, 39-of-50 field goals, and scored a total of 219 points. Maher also totaled 6-of-11 50+ yard field goals and tallied a long of 54 yards. As a senior in 2012, he recorded 20 field goals ranking second in NU single season history. Additionally, he scored 119 points his senior season setting the record at NU for most points scored in a season by a kicker. He ranked third overall in the Big Ten in scoring and first among kickers. He earned First-Team All-Big ten honors for the second straight season and also the Bakken-Anderson Big Ten Kicker-ofthe-Year Award for the second straight season. During the 2011 and 2012 seasons, Maher also handled punting and averaged 41.8 yards per punt in 2012. He placed 18 punts inside the opponent 20, while also recording 17 punts of at least 50 yards. He was voted Second-Team All-Big choice as a punter. In 2011, he earned Eddleman-Fields Big Ten Punter of the Year. Maher served as team captain in 2011 and 2012 and earned Special Teams MVP team award in 2011 and 2012. Additionally, in 2011 he was named a Lou Groza Award Semifinalist, First-Team All-America Kicker according to Yahoo.com, Touchdown Club of Columbus Vlade Award Winner given to the nation's most accurate kicker, and was named First-Team All-Big Ten punter and kicker. As a sophomore in 2010, Maher played in 13 games as the holder, assisting K Alex Henery to a perfect season on extra points and 18-of-10 field goal accuracy. As a redshirt freshman, he played in all 14 games as the holder and backup punter. As a true freshaman in 2008, Maher redshirted.
Personal: Maher had an impressive senior year at Kearney High School and converted 41-of-46 in extra points and 8-for-14 on field goals, while averaging 41.2 yards per punt. Along with kicker, he played wide receiver and totaled 775 receiving yards and 10 touchdown receptions. He earned First-Team all-state honors from both Omaha World-Herald and Lincoln Journal Star. He was also honorable-mention Class A all-state in basketball. Maher earned a state championship in the long jump and won the pole vault to set the state record. Maher has two sisters who both attended Nebraska and participated on the track and field team.
