5 interesting stats from Rams' shootout win over Lions: Puka Nacua's explosion, a dominant third quarter on both sides

The Rams came off a bludgeoning of the Cardinals last week just to put on another offensive avalanche. In both games, the Rams totaled over 500 yards of offense and put over 40 points on the scoreboard, and this week's 41-34 victory over the Lions punched their ticket to the playoffs.

Here are five interesting stats from the Rams' Week 15 win over Detroit.

The Rams outgained the Lions 179 to 5 in the third quarter

That's the fourth-largest yards disparity in a single quarter in any game this season, according to nflverse data, and it helped the Rams turn a 24-17 halftime deficit into a 34-24 lead entering the fourth. Defensive end Kobie Turner said that defensive coordinator Chris Shula and defensive line coach Giff Smith gave the defensive front the "green light" to play the pass more after keying heavily on the run in the first half, which led to their success in the third quarter.

"If it looks like pass, if it smells like pass, go get after it," Turner recalled them saying. "And so we were able to get (quarterback Jared Goff) off the spot, get to affect him a little bit, and then we started to feel like, this is Rams defense."

Wide receiver Puka Nacua's 16.3 receiving expected points added (EPA) is the most in a game this season, according to Next Gen Stats

That means Nacua's production added an expected 16.3 points to the Rams' point total compared to what the average receiver would achieve in similar contexts. Between his two fourth-down conversions, four explosive plays and an 81.8% catch rate, Nacua made the greatest impact on a single game as a receiver in 2025, at least based on EPA. He finished with nine catches for 181 receiving yards (tying his career-high) and eight rushing yards.

"He's like Pac-Man," head coach Sean McVay said postgame. "He just eats up yards and catches."

The Rams held running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery to 90 total yards combined, their second-fewest of the season, according to nflverse data

Gibbs and Montgomery make up one of the league's premier running back tandems, averaging 170.9 total yards per game. The Rams held them to a little over half of that in Week 15, and it featured just 70 rushing yards on 3.5 yards per carry – their longest run went for just 10 yards.

The Rams' 519 total yards is tied for the fourth-most in a game this season, but isn't their season-high

Last week in Arizona, the Rams totaled 530 yards, and followed that up with another 500-yard performance in Week 15. Los Angeles gained 159 yards on the ground (and weren't tackled for a loss for a third-straight week), while quarterback Matthew Stafford gained 360 net passing yards (including sack yards lost).

A season-high 240 of Stafford's 368 passing yards (65.2%) went to receivers at least 10 yards downfield, according to Next Gen stats

Stafford completed 10 of his 20 attempts to receivers at least 10 yards down the field for 240 yards and a touchdown against the Lions in Week 14. That's the eighth-most yards by a quarterback in a game this season in that context. Stafford was slinging it all day long against a banged up Lions secondary.
