Offseason position reset: Tight end

With the offseason program wrapped and training camp coming up on July 23, will be taking an updated look at positions on the team's roster.

Up next: Tight end.

Key offseason moves

  • Signed Colby Parkinson to a 3-year deal on March 14. Between Tyler Higbee's knee injury and the departure of Brycen Hopkins, the Rams needed to add to their tight end room. Enter Parkinson, a 6-foot-7, 265 pound target who previously played for the Seahawks.

Who's under contract

2023 stats: 47 receptions for 495 yards and 2 touchdowns while starting in all 15 regular season games played (missed Week 14 with a neck stinger and Week 18 with a shoulder injury). Also played in the Rams' wild card playoff game.

2023 stats: Did not record any offensive stats; appeared in four games (one start) before suffering season-ending knee injury in Week 14 at Ravens. Spent majority of season on Injured Reserve due to a thigh issue.

2023 stats: Spent 2023 season on practice squad.

2023 stats: Spent 2023 season on practice squad.

2023 stats: 29 catches for 356 yards and 5 touchdowns in his final collegiate season with Louisiana.

What's next

Getting Parkinson more comfortable with the playbook, and preparing the rest of the group for bigger roles. Head coach Sean McVay previously said Higbee is a candidate to begin the season on the Physically Unable to Perform list in wake of his knee injury sustained in the playoff game against the Lions. Higbee's return timetable is still unknown, but if he is on the PUP list and sidelined for a period of time, more will inevitably be asked of this group to make up for his absence.
