THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Rams head coach Sean McVay said CB Aqib Talib (ribs) and LB Clay Matthews (jaw) are out, while RB Todd Gurley II (quadricep) is doubtful for Sunday's game against the 49ers.
Troy Hill is expected to step into Talib's role.
"Very high (level of confidence in Hill)," McVay said. "He's played a lot of football. He played a lot of football last year. We think he's a starting-caliber player. He's got great short-space quickness, good agilities, good lateral movement."
If Gurley does not end up playing, McVay is positive that Malcolm Brown and Darrell Henderson Jr. can make meaningful contributions to Los Angeles' offense and backfield.
"What you know is that you've got a lot of confidence in Malcolm Brown," McVay said. "Darrell Henderson (Jr.) is a guy that has a skillset that we do feel good about. If that's the case, then obviously Malcolm, we feel more than confident can handle that and Darrell will look to get in there as well."
Additionally, Rams WR Brandin Cooks (concussion), LB Bryce Hager (shoulder) and safety Taylor Rapp (ankle) were all full participants Friday and appear set to play on Sunday. LB Natrez Patrick (hamstring) also saw full participation Friday after not participating Wednesday and being limited Thursday.
The 49ers, meanwhile, will be without four starters on Sunday: LT Joe Staley (fibula), RT Mike McGlinchey (knee), FB Kyle Juszczyk (knee) and CB Ahkello Witherspoon (foot).
Note that Thursday's participation for Rams players is an estimation based on what participation for a full practice would have been. High winds in the Thousand Oaks area forced the Rams to hold an indoor walk-thru that day.
