¿Pueden los Rams enfriar a Buffalo para calentar sus ilusiones de playoffs?

Por tercera vez en un lapso de cinco semanas, los Rams lo vuelven a intentar ante sus aficionados. Ellos quieren ponerse con récord ganador esta temporada, algo que aún no han conseguido.

La Semana 14 de la NFL trae para Los Ángeles (6-6) una nueva oportunidad de pisar firme con miras a los playoffs, pero el obstáculo para dar ese crucial paso es de nuevo excepcionalmente alto: los Bills de Buffalo (10-2), el equipo que mejor está jugando en la AFC.

El kickoff este domingo en SoFi Stadium está programado a las 1:25 pm PT (FOX/1330 AM Tu Liga Radio), cuando los Rams intenten continuar con lo mostrado en la buena segunda mitad del triunfo en New Orleans, posiblemente sus 30 minutos más consistentes del año.

Para aspirar a competir -y ganar- contra los primeros campeones divisionales en esta campaña, la ofensiva de los Rams seguramente deberá ser prolífica contra unos Bills que han anotado 30 puntos o más en sus últimos seis juegos.

Y la defensa de L.A., por su parte, tendrá que frenar lo más posible al quarterback Josh Allen, que cada semana luce más imparable.

"Él es más grande de lo que piensas y más fuerte de lo crees", comentó el coach Sean McVay acerca de Allen, serio candidato a MVP de la temporada. "Ellos pueden crear jugadas explosivas o pueden recorrer el largo del campo. Son realmente buenos situacionalmente y no tienen debilidades. Es por eso que están anotando 30 puntos por partido".

Colocados solo un juego detrás del liderato en la División Oeste cuando restan cinco partidos, los Rams aspirarán seriamente a la postemporada si pueden ganar este compromiso, el más duro que les queda en su calendario. Si lo mostrado en esa segunda mitad en el Superdome fue el principio de un potente cierre de temporada, entonces el público pronto se podrá dar cuenta de que es tiempo de ilusionarse.

"Tú [quieres] empezar a jugar tu mejor football en el mes de diciembre y llegar así hasta ese último partido en la primera semana de enero", agregó McVay. "Pero es de verdad un día a la vez. Sé que es un cliché de coacheo, pero si cada uno puede mejorar de manera continua y podemos jugar 'once como uno' en ambos lados del balón y en el pateo, entonces nos vamos a dar una oportunidad".

Esto último no podría ser más cierto que ante los Bills, ganadores de 11 juegos consecutivos en los meses de diciembre y enero en temporada regular y 20 de los últimos 22 desde 2020 en dichos meses. Buffalo es favorito por 3.5 puntos.

Por su parte, los Bills pusieron como cuestionables a dos de sus armas ofensivas que han estado ausentes en semanas recientes: el dinámico ala cerrada Dalton Kincaid (rodilla), quien tiene 34 recepciones, y el receptor abierto novato Keon Coleman (muñeca), que promedia 19 yardas por atrapada. Además, el ala cerrada suplente Quintin Morris (hombro/ingle) está cuestionable, igual que el tackle defensivo DeWayne Carter (muñeca) y el liniero ofensivo Tylan Grable (ingle). El estelar linebacker Matt Milano ya reapareció la semana pasada tras perderse 11 juegos por una lesión de bíceps.

Correr con eficiencia también ayudaría a reducir los toques de balón de Josh Allen (26 touchdowns totales).

- No hay secreto de que los Rams van a necesitar 60 minutos -o más- de enorme esfuerzo colectivo en su defensa para tratar de bajarle de revoluciones al acelerado ataque de Buffalo. Si el juego contra Buffalo resulta ser como muchos lo esperan (un duelo de ofensivas agresivas y productivas), entonces debe considerarse clave para Los Ángeles que el coach Sean McVay sea muy fino a la hora de decidir ir por cuartas oportunidades, no solo para no dejar puntos regados en el transcurso del juego, sino para no brindarle a los Bills campos cortos. Ser agresivos, pero juiciosos es un tarea difícil y crucial para que los Rams puedan dar la sorpresa

La carrera divisional
