WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. — Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (back) returned to practice Monday, his first time participating after back soreness from an aggravated disc had kept him sidelined since the beginning of training camp.
Head coach Sean McVay did not have any updates on Stafford to share, emphasizing that they remain in a day-by-day approach with Stafford.
Stafford participated in individual and team drills Monday. According to McVay, the Rams ran 26 plays in team drills.
"We're going to keep it a day and really a week at a time, but it's great to be able to see him out there today, and we'll see how this afternoon goes," McVay said after Monday's practice.
McVay did not disclose what the plan for the rest of the week was for Stafford, again stressing the fluid approach the situation requires.
"We're getting a grasp of this," McVay said. "He's doing everything in his power, and (vice president of sports medicine and performance) Reggie (Scott) and our group are doing everything in their power, and that's where you just take it a day at a time, because it's a very fluid situation that demands flexibility."
Jackson "on track" with rehab
McVay also said Monday that offensive lineman Alaric Jackson (blood clots) is "on track" with his rehab. Jackson is still taking things week-to-week, and is restricted to what he can do in team drills, but "is in great shape right now."
"He's able to be physically active, there are just some restrictions in regard to being able to participate in some of the full-team activities," McVay said. "I couldn't be more impressed with how he's handling this situation. What a great job he's done taking care of himself. He's added good muscle. He's taken great care of himself and I think he's in great physical and mental shape and we'll look forward to getting him out on the field sooner than later."
Ferguson practices as limited participant
Rookie tight end Terrance Ferguson also practiced Monday after being sidelined with a groin injury sustained during training camp.
"We were a little bit limited in regards to what he could do, but I thought he did a nice job with the few reps that he was able to get," McVay said.
