INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (back) will return to practice Monday, head coach Sean McVay said after Saturday's preseason opener against Cowboys at SoFi Stadium.
Stafford will just participate in individual drills in Monday's practice, according to McVay.
"It was awesome," McVay said of the scheduled workout Stafford went through on Saturday, in which he estimated Stafford threw 68 passes. "He looked good. He threw the ball really well. There was no limitations in terms of the types of throws – deep, intermediate, short. We were moving the launch point. And he felt really good, and so looking forward to progressing him back into practice on Monday, but it was a good step in the right direction."
This progression follows what McVay this week said the plan would be if all went well with that workout.
Stafford did not participate in any training camp practices nor this past Tuesday's joint practice with the Cowboys, only doing individual workouts away from the practice field with trainers during camp as he dealt with back soreness caused by an aggravated disc. He also received an epidural, which McVay said was part of the plan in working with spine specialist Dr. Robert Watkins.
Stafford was not scheduled to participate in Wednesday's joint practice with the Chargers in El Segundo, but that practice had to be canceled anyway because of the Chargers' injury situation, according to McVay.
