From the Podium: Sean McVay, Matthew Stafford, Davante Adams and Colby Parkinson on Rams snatching high-scoring Wild Card victory over the Panthers

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – There were four lead changes in the final 15 minutes of the game, but the Rams were on the leading side of the final one, and that was all that mattered. In a thrilling opener to Wild Card weekend, Los Angeles won 34-31 over the Panthers at Bank of America Stadium.

After the game, head coach Sean McVay, quarterback Matthew Stafford, wide receiver Davante Adams and tight end Colby Parkinson spoke with the media about the win. Here are the most significant quotes and talking points from those press conferences.

"I'm really glad that we had a lot of those moments where we talked about our scars being our strength, and fortunately, we were able to be at our best in those most important moments, and all three phases were collectively involved in that." - McVay

With less than three minutes remaining, the Rams trailed by four, but Stafford was in "total command," McVay said, leading a touchdown drive that would ultimately win it for Los Angeles. In those situations, McVay said you don't have time to think about how crucial that moment is. "You're not thinking about anything else," McVay said. "You're kind of just in that moment. And I could feel Matthew and I were on the same page and he did such a great job."

The Rams started attacking the middle of the field more later in the game. He said cornerbacks Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson are "as good of a tandem as there is" at that position, and that showed early on. Then Horn was injured in the fourth quarter, but "I thought our guys made the plays that they needed to," he said. McVay gave credit to Carolina making things "difficult" for the Rams in all three phases, but acknowledged that they will need to "play better" if they want to advance past the Divisional Round.

"(I felt) pretty calm (on the last drive). Pretty steady. It felt like I was seeing the coverages really well. Guys up front did a hell of a job keeping me clean on that last drive, too, giving me time to click through some progressions." - Stafford

Stafford has faced a slew of clutch situations this season, and he's always stayed level-headed in the midst of those, even with thousands of fans screaming down at him. "I've been in that spot a lot in my life, and so it brings a smile to my face because I like being there," Stafford said. In those situations, Stafford said he'd rather be the one with the ball in his hands than the one watching from the sidelines.

Stafford's finger got bent backwards early in the game and "it wasn't pleasant," but he was able to finish the game and "throw it decent," he said. "Once the ball's snapped, the adrenaline's pretty good." And on that last drive, he leaned over to Adams and said something about snatching the Panthers' hearts. He couldn't recall the exact wording postgame, but Adams could.

"I think he said, 'Let's go snatch these guys' hearts.' And that was pretty cold. That was pretty cold. Just to hear that, and I actually literally smiled in the moment because I thought that was one of the most gangster things you could say in that moment, honestly. And to hear him say that and the look on his face and then throw the touchdown and then the look on his face after that was just like MVP stuff." - Adams

Adams has been very outspoken about Stafford's calm demeanor in the face of adversity, dating back to Week 2 in Tennessee. His poise "keeps everybody else together, especially in moments like that where we can easily let things get out of control," Adams said.

In his first game since Week 14, Adams felt that he personally "could have played better," adding "the more we get back into and get into a rhythm playing together again, it'll just continue to get better." In terms of what they did better to pull out a close victory, when they've failed to do so in similar situations throughout the year, Adams jokingly said, "I liked that we won." But looking at the talent they have, Adams said "there's really no excuse to not go and do it."

"Matthew placed (the game-winning touchdown) perfectly. You couldn't have walked up and put it any better. Just gave me a chance." - Parkinson

With under a minute remaining, Stafford gave Parkinson a shot on a contested catch near the goal line, and he came down with it, tiptoed the sideline and scored to put the Rams up three. The first thing Stafford said to him was, "Did you catch it?" He responded, "Yeah, why is no one celebrating?" If the player in question celebrates right away, as Parkinson did, "you typically know that they caught the ball," he said.

That was one of just two catches for Parkinson on the day, but the last was the most important one of the entire game. He did it in front of family as well, which Parkinson described as "overwhelming." After what became the game-winning touchdown, he looked up at his family in the stands and "shed a few tears."
