WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. – Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (back) did not end up practicing Monday as expected after "he didn't feel good enough" coming into it, according to head coach Sean McVay.
McVay said that based on that and the feedback received from vice president of sports medicine and performance Reggie Scott, they felt opting for the cautious approach was the best move.
McVay said Stafford "had a great workout" and "felt good" on Saturday, "but then you come into today (Monday), it doesn't feel great, and so didn't think it was the right decision to be able to push him."
"More than anything, I feel for a guy that I really care about that wants to be out there more than anything else," McVay said. "We're going to be smart. But he didn't feel good enough, and we didn't think it was the right thing to do based on how he woke up feeling today."
Stafford was originally expected to participate in individual drills Monday as part of his progression coming off of his Saturday workout. McVay emphasized being "flexible and "fluid" and said they would take things "a day at a time" with Stafford.
Asked if surgery has been ruled out for Stafford, McVay said "that hasn't been a conversation that we've had."
"There's been a lot of conversations about what's the best method of how we want to approach it," McVay said. "That hasn't been something that comes up."
Asked if Stafford would be playing if the Rams were playing a regular season game this week, McVay said "I don't know that," but "I think he still probably would be able to play just based on how he feels."
Turner, Landman, Curl and Ford back at practice
Meanwhile, defensive end Kobie Turner (back), inside linebacker Nate Landman (calf), safety Kam Curl (ankle) and defensive tackle Poona Ford (groin) and cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon (calf) were all back at practice Monday.
"So really, everybody was back out there that had kind of been missing, and that's a real positive," McVay said.
And, with the exception of Stafford, it was "pretty much all hands on deck for the offense."
