"La cosa que mĂĄs quiero es poder ayudar a este equipo a pelear por otro Super Bowl. Ellos lograron su anillo y yo definitivamente estoy en busca del mĂo. Si puedo ser parte de que eso se repita... eso es por lo que estoy aquĂ", comentĂł Robinson, quien hace un par de años registrĂł 102 atrapadas con los Bears y que tres veces en su carrera ha superado las mil yardas.
Ănfasis en cuidar la lĂnea ofensiva
ï»żAndrew Whitworthï»ż anunciĂł su retiro el 15 de marzo para asĂ marcharse de las canchas en lo mĂĄs alto que uno pudiera aspirar: como campeĂłn del Super Bowl y con el Trofeo Walter Payton al Hombre del Año. El legendario tackle ofensivo ha dejado huella profunda luego de hacerlo todo bien en 16 temporadas como profesional y 239 juegos de temporada regular, los Ășltimos 71 de ellos con Los Ăngeles.Â
Ese anuncio de "Big Whit" vino en el momento justo para que los Rams se pudieran enfocar en cuidar de una lĂnea ofensiva que Whitworth liderĂł durante cinco años, pues casi inmediatamente firmaron nuevos acuerdos con el tackle ï»żJoe Noteboomï»ż, el centro titular ï»żBrian Allenï»ż y el versĂĄtil liniero ofensivo ï»żColeman Sheltonï»ż.
"Estar detrĂĄs de Ă©l, no hay una mejor situaciĂłn que Ă©sa en la liga", dijo Noteboom, quien estĂĄ llamado a ser el nuevo tackle izquierdo de los Rams en lugar de Whitworth luego de estampar su firma por tres temporadas con el equipo.
"Estuve viendo cada movimiento suyo dentro y fuera de la cancha, asĂ que eso es lo que me da confianza", agregĂł el liniero surgido de TCU, quien ha demostrado su valĂa al actuar en 47 partidos, incluyendo 12 como tackle izquierdo abridor cada vez que fue requerido como reemplazo.
Allen recuperĂł su puesto como centro abridor en el campo de entrenamiento de 2021 y luego fue una de las mayores revelaciones con una sĂłlida campaña que culminĂł con el tĂtulo. Su nuevo acuerdo tambiĂ©n fue por tres años. Shelton, quien puede jugar distintas posiciones, se arreglĂł por dos temporadas.
Powell regresarĂĄ como especialista
Otro elemento que regresarĂĄ al equipo es el receptor abierto y regresador de patadas ï»żBrandon Powellï»ż, quien en 2021 le cambiĂł de rostro a los equipos especiales de L.A. con sus magnĂficas devoluciones y seguridad de manos. PromediĂł 22.2 yardas por regreso de despeje y 26 por kickoff.
Por otra parte, los Rams dieron un paso para tratar de conservar al pateador ï»żMatt Gayï»ż y al linebacker ï»żTravin Howardï»ż al asignarles la figura de "tender de ronda original", lo cual significa que pueden igualar la oferta que ellos reciban de cualquier equipo, pero si deciden no igualarla entonces recibirĂan una selecciĂłn de draft a cambio (5a. ronda en el caso de Gay y 7a. en el caso de Howard).
Gay fue uno de los mejores pateadores de la temporada anterior al conectar 32 de 34 intentos de gol de campo y 48 de 49 puntos extra, ademĂĄs de hacer 8 de 10 goles de campo y sus 11 patadas de puntos extra en los playoffs. La era del receptor ï»żRobert Woodsï»ż y del pateador de despeje ï»żJohnny Hekkerï»ż, dos lĂderes emblemĂĄticos de los Ășltimos años en los Rams, llegĂł a su final en esta agencia libre.
Woods, quien se recupera de una lesión de ligamentos, fue cambiado a los Tennessee Titans por una selección de 6a. ronda de 2023 en una transacción estratégica que sirvió para aliviar presión sobre el tope salarial de L.A.
"Siempre apreciaré mi tiempo con los Rams, y por siempre tendrå un lugar especial en mi corazón y también en los corazones de mi familia. ¥Gracias!", dijo Woods en un mensaje de despedida en el que se dirigió al equipo, excompañeros, entrenadores y fans. En cinco años en el equipo, el receptor abierto acumuló 367 atrapadas, 4,626 yardas y 23 touchdowns, ademås de 70 acarreos para 485 yardas y otros 5 TD.
Hekker, por su parte, ha jugado toda su carrera de 10 años con el casco de los Rams, distinguiéndose como otro ejemplo dentro y fuera de la cancha. Fue nombrado All-Pro de primer equipo cuatro veces en una trayectoria que arroja cifras asombrosas: 161 juegos de temporada regular, 727 despejes para 33,951 yardas, con un promedio de 46.7 yardas y solo 3 patadas bloqueadas. Ademås, completó 14 de 23 pases en jugadas de engaño y 1 TD.
Los Rams hicieron un esfuerzo por firmar al linebacker exterior ï»żVon Millerï»ż sabiendo que iba a ser complicado quedarse con uno de los mĂĄs codiciados agentes libres de este año. El hombre que cumpliĂł su palabra de ayudar a ï»żAaron Donaldï»ż a ganar su anillo de Super Bowl decidiĂł regresar a la AFC al firmar un megacontrato de seis años con los Buffalo Bills.
Un guardia y una esquina quedan vacantes
Un lugar de la lĂnea ofensiva y uno en la defensa secundaria de los Rams tendrĂĄn competencia por la titularidad en 2022 luego de que los agentes libres ï»żAustin Corbettï»ż y ï»żDarious Williamsï»ż firmaron contratos de tres años con Carolina y Jacksonville, respectivamente.
Corbett fue el guardia derecho titular de los Rams en las temporadas de 2020 y 2021, ayudando al equipo a formar una de las mejores lĂneas ofensivas de la liga. Williams se ganĂł el puesto de esquina para la campaña de 2020 jugando en el lado opuesto de ï»żJalen Ramseyï»ż y destacĂł con 14 pases defendidos, incluyendo 4 interceptados.
Los Rams tambiĂ©n vieron partir a dos jugadores defensivos que el equipo seleccionĂł en el Draft de 2018: el tackle nariz ï»żSebastian Joseph-Dayï»ż y el linebacker exterior ï»żOgbonnia Okoronkwoï»ż. A ellos se suma el ala cerrada ï»żJohnny Mundtï»ż, veterano de cinco años con los Rams donde se destacĂł por su bloqueo, firmado por Minnesota por 2 años.Â
Interés por Bobby Wagner
Ganar el Super Bowl y ser contendiente al tĂtulo cada temporada tiene entre sus ventajas que algunos jugadores legendarios quieran unirse a dicha organizaciĂłn. Ese fue el caso de Von Miller en 2021 y puede ser el caso de otro "monstruo" defensivo ahora en 2022.
Bobby Wagner, uno de los mĂĄs destacados linebackers interiores de los Ășltimos tiempos, realizĂł una visita a los Rams para negociar sobre un posible acuerdo. El entrenador Sean McVay confirmĂł el interĂ©s del equipo por el excapitĂĄn defensivo de los Seattle Seahawks.
"Es un hombre con el que obviamente (estamos) muy familiarizados, jugando en su contra dos veces por año y tres veces en 2020", dijo McVay este martes en Florida. "Y es igual de impresionante como lo imaginaba cuando tienes la oportunidad de pasar mås tiempo con él".
Wagner, originario de Los Ăngeles y que creciĂł en Inland Empire, ha jugado 10 temporadas con 1,383 tacleadas. Ocho veces ha sido llamado al Pro Bowl y en seis recibiĂł el nombramiento de All-Pro de primer equipo.Â
"Si podemos llegar a un acuerdo yo estarĂa encendido", afirmĂł McVay ante la atractiva posibilidad de adquirir a un grande.
